2-channel SE amp...
« on: June 18, 2024, 08:45:20 pm »
please excuse if I’m in the wrong place or just missing something. I’m starting work on a dual single-ended 6L6 amp. This is 2 amps on one chassis with one power supply. Wondering if there are particular potholes to watch for. Also, "Holy Mackerel, Bud… Don’t do it!” might be goos for me to hear…
Thoughts? Thanks.

Why, what do you want it for?

That opens to door to stereo pitch shifting vibrato, ala Magnetone. Just saying.

I went there when I was young n foolish
weight 52 powers
problems to overcome 52
reasons to tear it all down and get real 52
see a pattern ?  :icon_biggrin:

xSE amps are best built, well single-ly

your Into said you figured out the plexi be good!
Mate that pre up with single KT88, biased screaming.  connect it to a 2 X 12 or if you like carrying heavy, a 4 x12 walla you can retire from amp building a happy man
1st pic is the "red" stereo KT88 brick!
couple builds I did that the guitarist "approved"

Yes, it does.

But I'm wondering what mrjomo want's a stereo SE amp.

I bought 1 of the new Maggy's with the stereo pitch shift vib, 2 x 12" cab, it's the bomb!

Willabe-It would be two amps voiced differently driving two different speakers with a pseudo-stereo effects chain. Right now, I drive my li’l Plexi and a Blues Junior. Plexi does generic Marshall-y stuff. The Blues Junior does Black Panel-y stuff. Two tones, two paths with stereo space ’n’ time gags. Life is swell. Further, If Maggie was my scheme, I'd build TWO of those and use the different voicings to drive two distinct speaker rigs.

Carlsoti has it right on the money.

Shooter-SE amps best built SINGLY. That resonates. That Shooter tried it and heartily cautions against tells me what I need to hear. Thanks. That’s why I asked. revisit plan...

That resonates.
one of the members, SilverGun is both a builder and guitarist.  Believe he figured out how to setup a couple SE amps that complemented each other, could stand on their own..etal.

the limiting factor on SE is power per watt per $.  once you reach over 20W rms, size n cost go exponentially UP.  We can "cheat" some by using quality speakers spl's north of 100 for loudness.  pedals for "tonal flavoring" and let the amp itself amplify "your sound"

a quote from a talented guitarist playing one of my KT88 SE amps "Wow, that thing is great, but you can't cheat when you're playing, you miss a string EVERYONE knows, you have to become a better player"

Shooter- actually for me in my wee li’l world 10 watts a side is plenty. it’s just me in my boom-boom room fartin’ around. I have no interest in 100 dB levels from my guitar rig. Thats for my real job. Putting my hands on gear that make me happy at lower SPL is my goal. I hear what you say about a nicer amp making you a better player. I suck. Now, though, I sound better while sucking. The "getting better" might come later. Thanks!
