John Mayall the grand father of English blues has gone home.
He had a huge influence on Eric Clapton. Listen to Clapton's post from today below where he tells of what he learned from Mayall.
Everybody's heard the 'Beano' Mayall's Blues Breakers with Clapton album, so I wont link that. I love Claptons playing on it, but was never crazy about his tone, Marshall combo with maybe KT66's.Too raspy for me.
Mayall, after Clapton, also had Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) and then Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones) in his Blues Breakers band.
Mayall was a very good blues harp player. Room to Move from the The Turning Point album, clip below, was some what of a hit for Mayall. All the young teen age blues harp players had to learn it. Turning Point album had no drummer and had a somewhat Jazz feel to it. It's really a great album.
I saw him once, mid 70's at, I think, the Park West in Chicago. His guitar player had an old tweed bassman and it was buzzing like crazy! Just terrible!

Thankfully you couldn't hear it when he played thou. It was summer time and all Mayall was wearing just a bathing suit. And he looked naked when he was standing behind his keyboard playing.

After the show was over a good looking woman snuck up behind him and grabbed his back end. And he was insulted over it.
