6g6b ...switches?
« on: January 28, 2025, 12:37:55 pm »
Im using a AB165 bassman chassis for a 6g6b bassman build. Ive added a hole for the presence control
Im wondering about uses for the slider switches.
I dont think a bright switch is going to be all that useful given the amps presence control. A half power would be something but im not sure how to approach that.
And for the bass channel, I wondered about switching the 2.2nf snubber cap in and out of circuit?
Thanks

A triode / pentode switching may do the job or a Master volume

Triode / pentode ;

I mean I’m happy to leave them as nothing switches but seems like a bit of a missed opportunity

Thanks for the triode pentode info I’ll examine it :)

A switchable bypass cap can be a good option, like a fat switch, or a switch that enhances certain frequencies.

You can't put a pentode/triode switch where Fender put the bright slider switch.

before a switch, just hard-wire it triode, play til the fingers bleed, re-wire Pentode, repeat.  most of the guitarists i've used, tell me it's not worth it, now the Audiophiles, they will tell you triode is the way to listen to music properly :icon_biggrin:

Most guitarist's don't like triode output power tubes because of the high end roll off, it's a lot, pretty dark sounding.

A while back I wanted to build a 6G6-B with one input and a channel switch. This isn't exactly what you're posting about, but you could switch between channels.  :dontknow:

It's designed to fit in Hoffman's Blank Aluminum Chassis 17 x 6.5 x 2.5: https://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/parts6.htm

Agree
I have an amp with this feature and I dont use it/like very much.
I was thinking of 3d printing an angry tiki for the grill emblem so maybe ill just make one of the swiches a for an LED that makes his eyes glow different colours :)

So I've opted to wire the bass channel switch as an in circuit/out of circuit switch for the 2.2fF snubber cap.

Still mulling over the other one. ..

Yep after testing the amp last night I think something to ease the gain a little might be good.
Whats the best way to wire this with a fender slider switch?

take the wire who come from the speaker tap throw the 56k resistor and wire the switch to cut that pad.

you can put a 1m resistor in the middle to avoid the switch noise.
