Rob Robinette's SLO 6V6 build
« on: February 04, 2025, 02:37:38 pm »
Hi all, wanted to show of my SLO 6v6 build! This is Rob Robinette's schematic, here https://robrobinette.com/How_the_Saldano_SLO-100_Works.htm#SLO-Nakid. I couldn't find any builds of this schematic online when I was preparing to build it, so maybe this is good for documenting the design. It has the boost switch Rob suggests, and I removed the clean input. I challenged myself to build it in the tiniest package I could. I ended up fitting it in the smallest chassis and shell that Tube Town in Germany has, their mini chassis is 285 mm wide.

Only just got it all to fit. Changed the layout a bunch. Really cool to try and get all these components on and fitting, inside and out. Tube Town have a relatively cheap but great PT that I used in previous build. Its over powered for this, but cheaper than any alternative. But also big :). Its 300-0-300, so voltages overal are about 10% lower than in Rob's design but I think thats allowed.

After powering up, I just changed the bias circuit a bit to get enough negative DC, and it works gloriously! Incredible sounding big gain monster in a small box. After building a bunch of "clean" amps, this is a lot of fun. Immediately down tuned all my humbucker loaded guitars :)

Faceplate and logo to follow..

Nice build.  Using the Mod electrolytics was a good idea due to their reduced size.

Very creative staggering the preamp tubes!

Soldano utilize some serious filtering in the power section. Is the cap on top the amp a 100uf dual?

It’s a single 220uf f+t big boy.  :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
