« on: February 01, 2026, 08:54:16 am »
We got like 7" here in south central NC. (the Sandhills region)
It was that light, fluffy, cold weather snow.
Hope the rest of y'all faired well and are safe!

Keep the coffee hot and the beer cold!

Shooter, I grew up in the North East.
Feb. 6, 1978 we had 5+ feet of that wet, heavy stuff fall in one night!
For the next 2 weeks we were plowing a section of Rt 95 in RI with a D8 Cat Bulldozer!

I drove from Augusta to Portland Maine in that 78 blizzard. A 1974 Saab with 4 snow tires. It was snowing so hard that they closed 95 because the plows could not keep up. I managed to crash land in the end of my driveway. I now do not recall why I stayed in Augusta so late. I wasn't that dedicated to my job, so it must have had something to do with a woman. Some of the small streets in Boston stayed impassible for weeks.
This storm pass by us, but we got 18" last week. That snow fell in below 0 temps, so very fluffy.

was on the road also, Virginia to Michigan, run'n a '77 Cutlass Salon  I 80 across PA was closed, but we had a CB with 50W linear, found a trio of truckers asked if I could "ride their wake"  "Sure, as long as you're as crazy as we are"  looked at the Mrs, she gave them the eye roll n off we went
I'm white Knuckled run'n just shy of 80mph while the Mrs is have'n a blast trash-talk'n with the drivers, we hit the IN line, I bought them all coffee, changed underwear n finished the trip in the slow lane

This year is the 1st real winter since we moved to Rochester NY. Wife's parents/family live here, I did NOT want to leave Chicago!  :BangHead: :cussing: :pain10:

It's been ~2 weeks now haven't gone over 30, mostly low 20's and low teens, mostly single digits at night, down to -1. Not supposed to hit 31 until next Tues. Then 37 and 41, we'll see. Be nice to start melting off some off the last ~12" of snow we got.

We've had over 78" of snow so far.

I remember it well. We were big into backcountry skiing in those days, so loved it. The ice storms hurt more - 14 days without power.

I have two dozen relatives in Rochester. My Uncle was lead Kodachrome engineer during the Kodak glory days. I've listed all the good things about Rochester below:
 - George Eastman Museum
 - White Hots
 - Several roads that lead out of the city

Yes!  :l2:

Absolutely the worst food I've eaten, all of it, in my life, I'm 67.

Chicago has wonderful food every where. All kinds from all over the world.

One thing I like about NC is that we get snow just occasionally and it's fun to see it for a few days
Some years we get none

Here's the after shot on Wednesday compared to my photo above

Agree on the food - both cities. A nephew lived for several years in Buffalo - he claims there is a Western NY disorder that attacks taste of all kinds.
I've visited Chicago several times - I'm not much for cities, but love Chicago.

I'm not much for cities

started my Civilian career working the South-side of Chicago, got "baptized by fire" n learned more in 3 years there than I could have anywhere else, once ANYWHERE else came open, I was gone in 60 seconds!!!!

since food is nothing more to me than "gas for the tank" n large masses of humans in one area kick-starts my flight response it was a natural choice  :icon_biggrin:
