On the Ohms of a Dilemma

Help.  I got a Celestion G12M -25 watt -16 Ohm speaker for my vox sound.   I like it, so I want to get another for a 2 by 12 cab instead of the 1 by 12.

Here's the pinch.  I wasn't thinking.  If I do two 16ohm speakers then I "HAVE" to put them in parrallel...right???  To get an 8 ohm read.  I can't put them in series to get a 32 ohm read....right?? 

Whats the problem??? I hate that high shrill sound of speakers in parallel and like the highs tapered by your normal series wiring.

Any solutions.....short of killing myself.

BASICALLY, your choices are sell the 16 Ohm (if even an option) and get two 8 Ohm, OR get a second 16 Ohm, and a new Power Output Transformer with half the current one's primary impedance and feed each secondary tap 2X the rated impedance when used (feed 32 Ohms into 16), OR live with them in parallel or as a single speaker config. (You've ruled this last one out pretty much.)

Which one is better? depends on the work you want to do or pay for for YOUR sound. Which one's cheaper? Obviously the third, followed probably by the first: buy two 8-ohm speakers and sell the 16 ohms. I say YOUR sound, as My sound, or anybody else's sound can, and usually does vary a tad bit at least.

Old 2x12 Vox amps typically used a pair of 8 ohm speakers wired in series. In case you were wondering. Shrapnel already laid out the viable options.

How about a 1 : 4 matching tranny like a Weber?  Use the 4 ohm primary and 16 ohm secondary.  From the amp's OT put 8 ohm's into the 4 ohm tap of the matching tranny.  Then the 16 ohm secondary on the matching tranny should be good for a 32 ohm speaker load.  Would that work?

So does this mean a cab with a single speaker has these high shrills?  If not, I wonder what is it when combining speakers in parallel that gives them high shrills.

fI don't know, but there is a difference between the sound of speakers in series and in parallel.  I just tried a set of 8 ohms I had in series, in parallel to the 4 ohm tap and there was a serious difference.  Less high roll off.  Wait....did I remember to switcvh to the 4 ohm tap...humm.
