stout relay circuit

what does the relay circuit do? can it be left out?

The relay switches the extra gain stage in and out.

Here is the hardwired, gainstage always on version:

Here are the schematics to compare if you prefer.
There wasn't a schematic for the no-switch version, so I edited out the relay circuitry.

why do we need the relay? cant we just put a direct switch? is it for safety? to keep high voltage away from the control panel?

more short are the wires less is the way to get noise

that can be a good reason

The relay makes it very easy to switch remotely via a footswitch.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

ok so you dont really need the relay, you can just put a regular switch in?
