Les Paul Copy / Mark II 1970's?
« on: July 26, 2010, 08:40:17 pm »
I know nothing about this copy but man it sure plays like butter. Pickups are very smooth with bite if needed. I flew 20 miles one way to Tarpon Springs here in Florida and grabbed it for $100.00. Im surprised that it is in very good condition. I thought i would get up there and it would be banged up. GOD is good! It's been too many years but i think i had one of these in the 70's or 80's. Dont remember.

I have found some info finally on the net. This LP copy was probably made by a Japanese company called EROS from 1967-72.

My body is chambered mahogany. The cap looks like maple but i am not sure. The neck is mahogany. The tuners are what made me initially think this was a 70's model to begin with

The 3 way switch has some legible letters on it and looks like Japanese letters / Also looks like 6 7 8 16?

The guitar sounds and plays great. It will need a refret. I have the medium jumbo fret wire and am getting ready to refret soon

Here are what the pickups look like. I was told they were a single pickup coil fake humbucker but instead found this:

The writing is korean, and is read properly when the toggle switch is pointing up. I could find a list of the letters somewhere, but it might not be helpful to you (being that the words would be in korean).

Each character group contains 2-3 letters (or letter combinations), and is read from the top-left, to top-right and then bottom/bottom-right.

Having had some experiance with korean factories, if it is a well-made and good-playing guitar, it would not be a surprise if you ultimately found out that Samick made it back in the day (even if under a different name). Samick probably makes the best korean guitars I've played.
