Are this small transformers usable for a shifting vibrato unit ?
« on: November 28, 2012, 07:43:57 am »
I recovered 5 pulse transformers like this from a tube military telephone equipment

Firstly I've think they are of no use for our purposes

Than I remembered the shifting vibrato unit build by Sluckey

There is a way to test if they are suitable ?

EDIT: does someone knows what mean the labeled data

on primary 132 T. - secondary 79 T. - tertiary 58 T. ? Mean Turns ?

Thanks

K

No, I don't think they can be used that way :sad2:

All started because I was remembering badly the name of the kind of transformer

I remembered pulse transformer instead of saturating transformer

However if someone knows if there is an use that can be done of those transformers he is welcome .........

Thanks

Yes, the "T" means Turns.

Impedances are not given directly, but you can figure the turns ratio between any two windings and calculate the impedance ratio.

Unfortunately, I don't really know whether they can be used in place of a saturable reactor, but my guess is no. Saturable reactors are very specialized devices.

Here's an example of the type circuit that pulse transformer might be used in. Your transformer would be used in a smaller blocking oscillator circuit than this, but the operation would be similar. I really can't think of any audio applications.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Translation: the oscillator works at frequencies way above the audio range, so you won't be building a trem oscillator with it.

Many Thanks Sluckey & HotBluePlates

Now, at least, I know what it is, which is no small thing !
