Zip ties instead of stand offs
« on: February 23, 2016, 12:11:31 am »
I found these zip ties with a molded mounting hole. Took a little searching to find them with either a #6 or #4 mounting hole but they do make them.

I'm going to try them for mounting the loose end junction of preamp tube grid stoppers and shielded cable. I probably need to slide some shrink tube over the loose end of the R/solder joint to keep it from shorting out to the chassis?

And then I found these zip tie mounting brackets, they will hold 2 separate ties, only need 1 bolt/nut and only 1 hole drilled in the chassis. These have the benefit of lifting the R off the chassis depending how you mount them. Gonna try them too.  :icon_biggrin:

Both are cheaper then stand offs so I can save those for high(er) voltage stuff.

Thanks DL, yeah guys here have been using those and posting gut shots with them.

But, I want to bolt them in, I just don't trust the adhesive/glue to stick long time.

Not sure about the *modern* glue, but the stuff we used in the 80's I had to chisel off in the 2000's so the scrap metal buyers were happy
Went Class C for efficiency

That's the way it always is when you want to remove them!   :icon_biggrin:

I've used quite a few of those throughout my career. The ones used in a fully climate controlled space do very well. The ones in a weatherproof junction box in the parking lot usually turn loose pretty quick.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

The mounting hole zip ties and bolt down zip tie mounting blocks arrived in the mail.   :mail1:

I really think these are going to work great!  :icon_biggrin:

Zip tie bolt hole is a #4 and the mounting bracket is a #6.

We have proven once again no plan survives contact with the enemy, or in this case, with the amp.
