This is a great thread - thank you bnwitt for sharing your work!  I have a stock 65 RI Super Reverb and am itching to build the AB763 circuit in a separate chassis using one of Doug's boards and doing the Diaz mods you described.

Now about those sound samples...

bnwitt,

Congrats on a great project!   I gotta tell you, I built a VV "clone" from a Weber kit, with some mods to make it more like the original and I thought it sounded TONS better than the VV Custom that was for sale down at geetar centre.  Maybe it was just that one, but it did not impress me that much.

Take a look at the attached shot of the Fender dual rectifier set up.  Anything wrong with the way it's setup?

Well, they attach the tube after the silicon recitifers, and there's no major issue with that. But since the a.c. has already been rectified, they're just running the output through the 5AR4 to add some tube sag. There wouldn't be a problem with that except for the fact that both 5AR$/GZ34 plates are in parallel, giving half the resistance and sag that this tube would normally have.

Since this is the rectifier for "low-sag" I'd think the Fender setup with the parallel rectifier plates would tend to have little or no audible difference between the tube and solid state settings.

So I vote for your/sluckey's method.

A little dated but I wanted to add my 2 cents..

I've got a Cd-100, Cd-30 & PXX..

All 3 share the same circuit, with a few variations..
From what I can tell they are more similar to a Princeton reverb than anything.

The CD30 is the oddball... It has 4-6L6's, a JTM45 power transformer and a Vibrolux output...

Also, all 3 amps have PPIMV....

  Hope this helps...  :)

Hi Everyone,
I have a project similar to bnwitt however mine will be based on a 69’ Bandmaster. Huge SRV fan and owned a real VV years ago , longtime gone , however I have just  little experience in amp building but I learn the most I can and enjoy it a lot ! I would like to download the final version of bnwitt schematics but the links don’t work anymore. Due to my limited experience it would be really helpful.
Someone could kindly supply me these please ? Or contact bnwitt personally ? I tried to pm him trough this plateform but he is not connected for months .
Thank you very much
